Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BIT Mesra) is an Indian institute of higher education and a deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act. It was established in the year 1955 at Mesra, Ranchi in the state of Jharkhand, India by the philanthropist and industrialist Late Shri. B. M. Birla. The institute was later headed by Late Shri G.P Birla and the present chairman of the board of governors is Shri C.K Birla.

The main campus at Mesra is a wholly residential campus. It was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, under University of Madras. The institute gained deemed status during the 2003-2004 academic year and was renamed SRM Institute of Science and Technology. Manipal Academy of Higher Education has sister universities in Dubai, Mangalore, Sikkim, and Jaipur.[1] It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. In 1953, T.M.A. Pai founded India's first private medical school, Kasturba Medical College,[6]and five years later the Manipal Institute of Technology was formed. M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) is a UGC approved[1] Private University in India. It was created by an act in the State of Karnataka, India and was established in December 2013.

Within two years of establishment, the University has been ranked as one of the top 100 universities[5] in India issued by the National Institutional Ranking Framework of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The University has been rated as a "Four Star" University under New University Category of Karnataka State University Rating Framework (KSURF)[6]. B.M.S. College of Engineering (BMSCE) is an autonomous engineering college in Basavangudi, Bangalore, India. The college, started in 1946 by B. M. Sreenivasaiah, was the first private sector initiative in technical education in India and is run by the BMS Educational Trust. It was affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University from 1998 to 2008, and became autonomous in 2008. BMSCE is located on the Basavangudi Area Bull Temple Road, diagonally opposite to the famous Bull Temple. Though a private engineering college, it is partially funded by the Government of Karnataka. BMSCE was founded in 1946 by B. M. Sreenivasaiah with 3 undergraduate courses (Mechanical, Civil & Electrical), claiming to be "the first private sector initiative in engineering education in India".
